Hear me [2009]

A delivery Boy falls for a young girl who is hearing impaired. Comparing themselves with "water birds" and trees, together they are going to break the barrier and pursuit their dreams and take their relationship to the next level.

The gimmick in the film that allows it to transcend the usual teenybopper puppy love stories filled with an eye-candy cast, is undoubtedly the use of the non-verbal medium of sign language in a film. I don't recall watching any recent contemporary film where the lead characters engage in sign for the most parts of the story, leaving us the audience relying very much on the subtitles (both English and Mandarin with subtle differences) to tide us through. It's a novelty factor, though one that works, and hopefully can help to garner interest such that it shouldn't been seen as a "language" of exclusivity because of impairment, but one which is actually very beautiful with its fluid motion, and as the film suggests, with a certain degree of creative improvisation (hey, so long as you're understood, right?)

Resource Hacker v3.6

Resource Hacker is a utility to view, modify, add, rename and delete resources in Windows executables and resource files. Furthermore, Resource Hacker also includes an integrated resource compiler and decompiler.

Here are some key features of "Resource Hacker":

· View resources in Win32 executable files (*.exe, *.dll, *.cpl, *.ocx) and in Win32 resource files (*.res) in both their compiled and decompiled formats.

· Extract (save) resources to file in: *.res format; as a binary; or as decompiled resource scripts or images. Icons, bitmaps, cursors, menus, dialogs, string tables, message tables, accelerators, Borland forms and version info resources can
· be fully decompiled into their respective formats, whether as image files or *.rc text files.

· Modify (rename or replace) resources in executables. Image resources (icons, cursors and bitmaps) can be replaced with an image from a corresponding image file (*.ico, *.cur, *.bmp),
· a *.res file or even another *.exe file. Dialogs, menus, stringtables, accelerators and messagetable resource scripts (and also Borland forms) can be edited and recompiled using the internal resource script editor.
· Resources can also be replaced with resources from a *.res file as long as the replacement resource is of the same type and has the same name.

· Add new resources to executables. Enable a program to support multiple languages, or add a custom icon or bitmap (company logo etc) to a program's dialog.

· Delete resources. Most compilers add resources into applications which are never used by the application. Removing these unused resources can reduce an application's size.

Nmap ("Network Mapper") is a free and open source (license) utility for network exploration or security auditing. Many systems and network administrators also find it useful for tasks such as network inventory, managing service upgrade schedules, and monitoring host or service uptime. Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea [2008]

Ponyo (崖の上のポニョ, Gake no Ue no Ponyo, literally "Ponyo on the Cliff"), initially titled in English as Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, is a 2008 Japanese animated film by Studio Ghibli, written and directed by Havao Mivazaki. It is Miyazaki's eighth film for Ghibli, and his tenth overall. The plot centers on a goldfish named Ponyo who befriends a five-year-old human boy, Sōsuke, and wants to become a human girl.
The film has won several awards, including the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year It was released in Japan on July 19, 2008, August 14, 2009 in the US and Canada and February 12, 2010 in the UK. The film reached #9 in the U.S. box office charts for its opening weekend.

To Live [1994]

To Live ( simplified Chinese: 活着, traditional Chinese: 活著) is a 1993 novel by Chinese novelist Yu Hua. It describes the struggles endured by the son of a wealthy land-owner after the Revolution fundamentally alters the nature of Chinese society. The contrast between his pre-revolutionary status as a selfish fool who (literally) travels on the shoulders of the downtrodden and his post-revolutionary status as a persecuted peasant are stark.

Xu Fugui is a son of a local rich man and compulsive gambler. After he loses his entire family fortune, his father died with grief and indignation. To make a living, Fugui joined a shadowgraph to work. The Chinese civil war occurring at the time, and Fugui was forced to join the army. By the time he finally returned home two years later, he found out his mother died for stroke, and his daughter has become mute and lost most of her hearing from a fever. Years later, the only son of Fugui died for blood transfusion. The deaf-and-dumb daughter finally grew up and meets her husband. They were a happy couple until she died for dystocia. Soon after that, Fugui’s wife died for rickets, and his son in law died from a construction accident. Eventually, even Fugui’s last relative, his grandson Kugen (renamed Mantou in the 1994 movie adaptation), died from a food accident. In the end, Fugui bought one old cattle to accompany him. It seems the world left absolutely nothing for him, but he did not give up, he believes there are still hopes, just as what they say, things would get better and better…
The novel includes interesting first-hand descriptions of some of the less successful aspects of Collectivist policy, such as communal agriculture and the attempt to build a village-based steel industry.
A movie of this novel was released in 1994. Despite being less grim than the novel, it was banned in China and the director Zhang Yimou was banned from filmmaking for two years.
